Mitigating Climate Change: Challenges and Responsibilities?
: a discussion with Faculty and Alumni Saturday June 13, 2015. 3:30- 5:00 p.m.
Location: THE CLASS OF 1966 ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER Can we stay within the 2 degree Celsius rise in global temperature by 2100 and stave off the devastating effects of climate change? This hands-on facilitated workshop and discussion is organized in collaboration with the Center for Environmental Studies. Using a computer simulation developed at MIT www.climateinteractive.org , participants will assess the forces contributing to climate change as well as the tools available to avert disaster. They will in fact be able to see the impact of their recommendations for mitigation on the spot. Leading the ensuing group discussion will be Gaudino Scholar and Associate Professor of Biology Lois Banta, Student and Environmental Activist Caroline Bruno ’15, Provost and Professor of Philosophy Will Dudley ’89, and Alumnus Daniel Shearer ’04,.
