Steve Burrington on "Connecting Sustainability & Equity in US Cities: Groundwork USA"

Burrington

On Friday, February 12th, Steve Burrington, Executive Director at Groundwork USA visited Log Lunch to share his story about connecting sustainability and equity in US cities. Before joining Groundwork, Steve held several positions with governors’ offices, mayors and diverse private sector organizations to carry out sustainable land use, transportation and energy strategies. Now at Groundwork USA Steve works in projects integrating environmental restoration and community redevelopment. With offices in 22 cities throughout the nation, Groundwork is working to create new standards for revitalization and development strategies that prioritize local engagement, environmental consciousness and community outreach.

During his talk Steve shared some examples of successful Groundwork USA projects including a river restoration in Yonkers, NY; environmental restoration and community revitalization around Cincinnati’s Mill Creek district; and a complete redevelopment project in Lawrence Massachusetts. Steve expressed great pride in the Lawrence project and would like to share this video with everyone interested in learning more about Groundwork and their particular work on this project: http://www.cityoflawrence.com/spicket-river-greenway.aspx
