Position description: The Vermont Mountain Bike Association (VMBA) is seeking a summer intern to assist in the design and execution of a research study aimed at quantifying the economic and environmental impact of trail-based recreation in Vermont. Specifically, the chosen individual would be responsible for helping finalize the design and data collection approach for a survey instrument that they would then be responsible for deploying in the field at selected Trailheads throughout the state of Vermont. For the field portion of the project, the intern would collect in-person questionnaires from trail visitors. Following the data collection period, the intern would then aggregate, organize, and analyze the data, presenting their findings to the VMBA Board. The intern would work closely with the VMBA Executive Director and staff, meeting regularly to refine and adjust methodology as needed and preparing the summary of findings.
Location: The VMBA office is located in Waterbury Vermont, approximately a half hour drive from Burlington and 15 minutes from Montpelier. The field research itself would take place at select trailheads throughout the state.
Dates: Flexible -ideally an 8 week period that would include 2 weeks for finalizing the instrument and study design, 4 weeks of field work, and 2 weeks of data analysis & summary.

Housing/transportation situation: None provided, but ample summer student housing opportunities in and around UVM as well as other nearby colleges. Transportation costs to trailheads for the field portion of the project would be fully covered by VMBA.
