2023San Francisco Parks Alliance Internship Opportunity

San Francisco Parks Alliance (SFPA) is a local non-profit organization serving
the city of San Francisco through partnerships with communities and public
agencies to create, sustain, and advocate for parks and public spaces that
welcome and belong to everyone. SFPA seeks a passionate, creative
individual who is interested in supporting our vision of welcoming spaces for
ALL.
The intern will focus on project based work in three areas of impact related to
advocacy, data collection, and inclusive practices. More information on
possible projects is detailed below:
Blog Posts
As part of our commitment to education and advocacy, we’re excited to
be launching a blog covering a range of public space topics. Interns will assist
with identifying relevant topics, conducting research, and drafting posts.
Clear communication, attention to detail and writing skills are required.
Data Collection
Telraam
SFPA is proud to be the first US partner to implement Telraam, a
window-affixed device that tracks reliable traffic data and speed counts.
These devices allow for an open source data share platform connecting
residents, policy makers, and researchers to meaningful data about their
streets. The intern will assist with the implementation, data collection, and
general plan for these devices.
SOPARC
In 2019 we partnered with San Francisco Recreation and Parks
municipality to transform 13 Playgrounds, identified by a citizen taskforce, in
non-equitable neighborhoods. Utilizing the SOPARC data collection tools we
assess the before and after metrics of activity level, activity modes/types, and
estimated age of users in these playgrounds. The intern would assist with
collecting post improvement data on these chosen playgrounds and run an
analysis of our impact. Strong analytical and observational skills required.
DEI TaskForce
As our first strategic goal for our organization, SFPA strives to Optimize
Organizational Health to create a high-performing and diverse team. We
recognize the need for diverse, equitable, and inclusive environments to
create lasting and impactful change in our communities. The intern would
belong to our DEI Taskforce, contributing thoughts and perspectives, at the
end of their internship they will present on key learnings. Creative thinking,
strong listening skills, and openness are required.
