Australia internship; music, business, environment

Williams College Internship

Summer 2022

Position Description

The Bowerbird Collective is a recently formed, non-profit organisation based in Australia, dedicated to strengthening emotional connections to nature through the arts.

Offering a combination of live concerts led by its two exceptional founding partners (prominent Violin and Cello players Simone Slattery and Anthony Albrecht), Bowerbird Collective focuses on performing for regional communities, digital productions, and educational opportunities. This innovative ‘environmental chamber music’ group is empowering world-class artists to tell nature stories in impactful, innovative, and deeply moving ways.

In 2021 we released an album of threatened birdsong, ‘Songs of Disappearance’, that beat Taylor Swift in the Australian music charts.

We are seeking a Williams intern in 2022 to assist with business development, building a global network of partner organisations and accelerating our digital strategy.

Specific goals of the internship will include:

  • support for taking the ‘Songs of Disappearance’ project international starting with the US (where we are in early stages of developing a partnership with Audubon Society);
  • developing collaborations with conservation organisations, music industry associates, graphic artists and nature recordists throughout the world; and
  • creative/commercial/conservation opportunities with international brands; and
  • supporting development of our early fundraising strategy and income streams.

Our intern will work closely with the Executive Director Anthony Albrecht and Board of Directors (leading business and arts figures, including Williams Alumnus, Mara Bún ‘84).

The internship is available remotely, or in Australia (intern will fund travel expenses), with accommodation provided at the Queensland home of Mara Bún ’84 which is a sustainable home made of recycled materials located in a rainforest valley in the hinterland of the Gold Coast. Mara’s home is located near two Gondwana national parks (Lamington and Springbrook) and is 20 minutes from local beaches. This internship can be done from home anywhere in the world, given The Bowerbird Collective’s digital and partnership pathways, and our active use of video communications.

We seek a student who is inspired by the nexus between the arts, conservation, and modern production values.
