Summer 2017 Undergraduate Environmental Intern
Environmental Action Center (EAC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides
environmental advocacy and litigation support for local communities. It is our perspective that
in order for America’s communities to be clean and safe, we must address environmental issues
both in our wild places as well as in our own backyards. We at EAC make it our mission to
identify and understand the important components of each environmental challenge. We
approach these issues by examining the statutory and regulatory frameworks governing a
particular source of pollution, and search for creative solutions for compliance. We follow
Abraham Lincoln’s credo that “law without enforcement is just good advice.”
Internship Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated summer intern who can help research and draft materials for
EAC’s concentrated animal feeding operation (CAFO) and oil & gas projects. More information
on each of these campaigns, and our published work on each project, is available on our website
at www.environmentalactioncenter.org.
Responsibilities Include:
– Researching and summarizing the latest scientific and policy materials regarding CAFO
regulation and oil & gas engineering and regulation.
– Drafting deliverables, including white papers and grant proposals based on our latest
research, for EAC funders and environmental partners.
– Coordinating with EAC’s social media staff to draft blog posts and publicize EAC’s
latest work.
EAC is currently located in Washington, D.C. and will likely be moving to Rockville, Maryland
early this spring. EAC staff currently includes three attorneys and one social media coordinator.
We are looking for an intern to contribute to a team atmosphere, so an ability to collaborate and
excel on team projects is imperative. The hope is to assist the student to get a piece of work
from the summer published in some capacity as a thank you for helping EAC further its mission.
