Policy Intern

We help protect 20% of the planet’s surface freshwater by engaging and activating citizens to join with us to advance public trust solutions informed by our cutting-edge policy work. Through our targeted policy initiatives and multi-media communications, FLOW has built key partnerships with state-level and regional environmental groups, leveraged our expertise to influence agencies and impact state and federal legislation, and grown to be a trusted source of current information for citizens and decision-makers on issues affecting our freshwater seas. Our office is located in the heart of the Great Lakes, in Traverse City, Michigan.
Position Summary: This is a paid internship. We are looking for a 3-month summer Policy Intern, but we are flexible. Intern is responsible for securing and paying for housing costs.
Responsibilities: The policy intern will assist in the research, analysis, preparation and communication of information related to FLOW’s Campaign for Freshwater. The Campaign consists of three major initiatives related to protection of drinking water, groundwater and the Great Lakes. The intern will follow direction in helping shape reports, fact sheets, presentations and other material.
Qualifications: The work of FLOW can be demanding and fast-paced. The applicant for this position will need to be flexible, a critical thinker, an effective researcher, and a compelling writer of scientific and legal information for a general audience. FLOW is looking for an individual seeking a Master’s degree or J.D. with the ability to follow direction and work independently in an office setting in downtown Traverse City who possesses close attention to detail; strong writing, research, people, and telephone skills; and experience with the Internet, Google Docs and Sheets, and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
