Policy Intern

Our mission is to safeguard the Great Lakes, 20% of the planet’s surface freshwater, by engaging and activating citizens to join with us to advance public trust solutions informed by our cutting-edge policy work. Through our targeted policy initiatives, FLOW has built key partnerships with state-level and regional environmental groups, leveraged our expertise to influence agencies and impact state and federal legislation, and grown to be a trusted source of current information for citizens and decision-makers on issues affecting our freshwater seas. Our office is located in the heart of the Great Lakes, in Traverse City, Michigan.
Position Summary: Policy Intern at FLOW. This is an unpaid internship. We are looking for a 12-week summer intern, but we are flexible.
Responsibilities: The Policy Intern will be responsible for: case studies, interviews, drafting written testimony, conducting research for public comments, quick research on various water-related topics, contributing toward existing campaigns (such as the Line 5 and Nestle campaigns), and producing blog content to address regional issues.
Qualifications: The work of FLOW can be demanding and fast-paced. The applicant for this position will need to be flexible and a critical and systemic thinker. FLOW is looking for an individual who is career-oriented and a strong communicator (written and verbal).
