The types of internships available are in various SCAQMD divisions such as Legislative & Public Affairs/Media Office, Finance, Science & Technology Advancement (which includes our state-of-the-art air quality laboratory), Engineering & Permitting, Compliance & Enforcement, Information Management, Human Resources, Legal, and Planning, Rule Development & Area Sources. While at SCAQMD, students work up to 28 hours per week, side-by-side with air quality and other professionals who are dedicated to cleaning up one of the most challenging air districts in the United States. The internship program can help students make decisions involving collegiate and graduate training in the sciences and other professional fields. Resumes and cover letters received are forwarded in April to SCAQMD Governing Board members for review and selection. Students are usually notified of their selection in April, and typically begin their assignments in May; thereafter, working through the summer.
Applications may be submitted between February 1 and March 31 each year. To apply, please submit a cover letter and a detailed resume, via email, to [email protected]. The cover letter should indicate the reasons you would like to intern at our agency, the area(s) in which you are interested in working, your educational goals, and should also include a statement about your commitment to environmental concerns. Please be sure to clearly state that you are applying for SCAQMD’s Governing Board Summer Internship Program.
