About Us: Located in El Monte, California, BikeSGV’s mission is to make the San Gabriel Valley a safer,
healthier, and more enjoyable place for cycling by:
Educating the community about bicycle safety and the many benefits of cycling, including
physical/mental health, air quality, and personal finance.
Partnering with community groups, cycling clubs, public health agencies, and other parties to
promote active transportation, improve air quality, and support multi-modal transportation
planning.
Informing and educating city staff and decision makers about internationally tested and proven
forms of bike infrastructure that create safer streets for all road users.
Representing local cyclists and bike groups in the San Gabriel Valley on issues of regional
significance.
Developing strong working relationships with city staff and government agencies to ensure that
local transportation policies and projects safely accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.
Supporting policies and legislation to increase funding for bicycle-friendly improvements.
Recognizing individuals, cities and staff persons who set the standard for promoting cycling in
the San Gabriel Valley.
Organizing public events to promote bicycling in the San Gabriel Valley.
How can you help?
Support the coordination and execution of the region’s first multi-jurisdictional “open
streets” events or “ciclovias”
Conduct community outreach
Collect and analyze pedestrian and bicycle use data
Support and facilitate community bike trains/rides
Learn bike maintenance and support community workshops
Assist in the San Gabriel Valley’s first Bike Education Center/Community Bike Co-op
Contribute to social media campaigns
Help communities obtain funding to make biking and walking safer
Bring your talents, interests and good ideas
Qualifications
Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Docs
Research skills
Comfort with public speaking
Comfort working with diverse communities
Availability for 5 to 10 weeks beginning in June 2016
Preferred
Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, and/or Vietnamese language skills
Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Passion for public health, pedestrian/bike-friendly communities, and youth development
Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including weekends and evenings, to
accommodate community meetings and data collection requirements
Willingness to utilize public and active transportation for commute and work-related
activities. A car is not required
