A 10-week paid neuroscience and clinical psychology research program for promising young Black, Indigenous, and underrepresented People of Color (BIPOC) who are current undergraduate students interested in exploring mental health research as a possible career. MMHRSP Fellows will conduct hands-on, mentored research at McLean Hospital – Harvard Medical School’s primary psychiatric teaching hospital. Fellows will participate in professional development workshops and community outreach activities. Our goal is to provide research opportunities, committed mentorship, and academic networking to increase diversity in mental health neuroscience research.
Program Features:
1. Mentored research experience in a Harvard Medical School neuroscience laboratory at McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA (https://www.mcleanhospital.org/research).
2. Workshops to teach and promote strategies for success in a scientific career.
3. Community engagement in collaboration with McLean’s Brains Matter outreach program.
4. $7,000 stipend per student for the 10-week program.
Program Timeline:
• Application opens: Monday, December 6, 2021
• Application deadline: February 14, 2o22
• Selection announcement: March 11, 2o22
• Program: June 6th – August 12th 2022 – conditions subject to change due to COVID-19
Eligibility:
• Currently enrolled in a 2- or 4-year college; reside or attend college in Massachusetts
• Junior or senior (4-year college) or a 2nd-year (2-year community college) in Fall, 2022
• From a racial or ethnic group considered underrepresented in STEM: Black, Hispanic/Latine, Native American, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, and/or Alaska Native (based on National Institutes of Health guidelines)
• Strong interest in the science of mental health disorders.
• Ability to commit to 10 weeks of full-time research work at McLean Hospital.
