Metta Earth Institute, Lincoln, VT Team Residence Positions

 

Metta Earth Institute is a center for contemplative ecology, located on 158 acres of field, forest, farm, and pasture. We are a non-profit, educational retreat center integrating contemplative practice, deep ecology, regenerative food systems, and social activism to create resilient sustainable communities. We support the cultivation of ecological sustainability with the practices of organic farming and gardening, permaculture, alternative and appropriate energy technologies including solar and wind power, composting systems, green building, and locally sourced hand crafts.

Through the summer we hold a series of Ecological Leadership programs. Team residencies are a crucial component to ensure that program participants are well cared for and that all farm and program tasks run smoothly. Benefits include housing, organic, delicious, and nurturing meals, daily yoga classes, and a stipend depending on your experience and qualifications.

Kitchen Focalizer
Duties
– Coordinating and planning meals, especially during the two week programs
– Cooking a majority of lunches and dinners
– Assisting with other farm, hearth, and garden tasks as time allows

Qualifications
– Life at Metta Earth is infused with community processes and practices, and an interdependent and cooperative work ethic is required
– Knowledge about farm to table cooking
– Able to accommodate meals for various dietary restrictions
– Clean, organized, and timely

Animal Focalizer
Duties
– Feeding and watering the cows, sheep, and chickens
– Collecting eggs
– Moving fences for rotational grazing
– General care, love, and attention for the animals
– Other duties possible depending on experience, such as milking, or if you would like to learn new skills about animal husbandry

Qualifications
– Life at Metta Earth is infused with community processes and practices, and an interdependent and cooperative work ethic is required
– Previous experience working with farm animals
– Clean, organized, and timely
Garden Focalizer
Duties
– Coordinating intern team to assist with garden tasks
– Timing planting, sowing, and harvesting crops
– Tending the greenhouse

Qualifications
– Life at Metta Earth is infused with community processes and practices, and an interdependent and cooperative work ethic is required
– Previous farm and garden experience
– Clean, organized, and timely
