2019 Third Beach Summer Naturalist/Aquarist
Job Description
General Description: Norman Bird Sanctuary is seeking a seasonal Third Beach Summer
Naturalist/Aquarist to develop and deliver marine and coastal educational programs for our Summer Camp
program. Naturalist/Aquarist-led programs include but are not limited to: seining; beach, dune and marsh
explorations; and dissections. This position requires working collaboratively with Summer
Teacher/Naturalists to make sure beach programs match weekly and daily themes for each camp group.
Campers range in age from 3.5 to 13 years old, and all applicants should be comfortable working with
multiple age groups each day. The Third Beach Summer Naturalist/Aquarist is responsible for the set-up,
care, and end of summer cleanup of salt water aquaria. Contract begins June 10th and runs through
August 16th and includes one week of staff training.

 Develop and assist in the delivery of marine and coastal educational programs for the Summer
Camp program at NBS
 Work collaboratively with Summer Teacher/Naturalists to plan and teach
 Set-up, maintenance, and end of season clean-up of salt water aquaria and associated materials
 Track and report marine fish and invertebrate species caught and housed at Third Beach
Education Center
 Other duties as assigned
 Bachelor’s degree or work towards a degree in marine science, biology, or an
environmental focus
 Experience working with/caring for and identifying marine animals
 Comfortable working with campers ages 3.5 to 13 years old
 Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, walk several miles, and lift mediumweight objects
 Must pass a background check prior to hire
 Good written and verbal communication skills
 Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred
Compensation: $12.50/hour for 35 hours/week.
