2019 Summer Camp Teacher/Naturalist
Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Norman Bird Sanctuary is seeking Teacher/Naturalists for our Summer Camp program.
Teacher/Naturalists lead groups of 12-16 campers in Grades PreK through 8; plan and teach a variety of
hands-on, nature-based camp activities; oversee camper health and safety; communicate with staff and
parents; and supervise high school Assistant Naturalists in Training. Contract runs June 17th
– August 16th

including 1 week of staff training. Schedule varies depending upon Summer Camp program. See below for
details:
Fledglings: Campers ages 3.5-5 years; Monday-Friday 8:00 am–2:00 pm
Chickadees: Campers ages 4-6 years; Monday-Friday 8:00 am–4:00 pm
Nature Day Camp: Campers Grades K-4: Monday-Friday 8:00 am–4:00 pm
Coastal Camp: Campers in Grades 2-8; Monday-Friday 8:00 am–4:00 pm
Explorers: Campers in Grades 4-6; Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:00 am–4:00 pm;
Wednesday 2:30 pm–9:30 pm

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years old
Knowledge of or a strong interest in the natural sciences
Experience working with children in a responsible and professional setting
Strong communication skills
Must pass national and state background checks
Bachelor’s degree or coursework towards a college degree in education, environmental science, or
biology preferred
Preference will be given to applicants that possess CPR and First Aid certifications valid through
August 16th 2019
COMPENSATION:
Competitive wages based upon experience and position. Contract is 9 weeks, beginning June 17th through
August 16th
