Program and Field Camp Manager Hawthorne Valley Farm - Place Based Learning Center , Ghent, NY

The Hawthorne Valley Farm Place Based Learning Center is located on a 500+ acre bio-dynamic farm in upstate New York. We are seeking a Full-Time Program and Field Camp Manager to join our team as we foster respect for the earth, interdependence, responsibility, and social consciousness. Our program goals are to help children become self-motivated individuals who approach the world around them with openness and an awareness of community and the environment. We teach and guide all who participate by supporting the objectives of Waldorf Education begun by Rudolf Steiner.

Purpose
• To manage with the support of other program managers all educational activities related to the residential, day and summer children’s programming for the Hawthorne Valley Farm PBLC.

Responsibilities
• Develop and implement farm-based educational activities, curriculum and programs for children with other managers based on the principles of bio-dynamics and Waldorf education
• Help to maintain care for all small program animals with the help of other staff
• Hire, train and supervise all field camp counselors
• Develop and implement field camp curriculum and activities for children ages 12 to 16 with support
Qualifications
• Strong knowledge and experience working in Summer Camp Programs or other children programs
• Experience working with children ages 8 to 16 in a hands-on environment
• Love of children and an ability to promote respect for others using an open and caring attitude
• Skills or interest in farm-based crafts, basic animal husbandry
• Strong knowledge of Waldorf education and Bio-dynamic agriculture
• First aid/CPR certification and Lifeguard certification a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Excellent communication skills, written and oral
• High competence with basic computer skills such as Microsoft Office and email
• Ability to supervise a diverse staff
• Ability to create, plan, organize, and carry out daily and special programming

Hours and Type of Employment
• Full time management salaried position with benefits
• 40 hours per week – more during summer camp
