Program Mission and/or Goals: The Pontchartrain Conservancy Community Department’s goal is to
educate the public on important issues affecting our basin. Pontchartrain Basin is a 10,000 square
mile watershed encompassing 16 Louisiana parishes. It is one of the largest estuarine systems in
the Gulf of Mexico containing over 22 essential habitats. With increased awareness of environmental
issues, citizens of the basin become better stewards of the region where they live.
Position Summary: The Intern will assist with PC’s environmental education programs as well as
outreach and engagement with general public and specifically, K-12 participants. This position will
assist with the development, preparation, and implementation, of our STEM education activities at
our New Canal Lighthouse Museum. The intern should be prepared to learn and present various
STEM programs and provide Museum Tours. They will collaborate with community partners to help
provide a multi-layered, more thorough learning experience. The intern will also help organize and
maintain our current exhibits including our rain garden, as well as increase our capacity to reach
more community members through outreach events and building partnerships.
This position is 10-15 hours per week and will be on site at our New Canal Lighthouse Museum. There
will be occasional on site work at PC’s office in Metairie and potentially at offsite outreach events.
Essential Functions:
Prepare education program materials and curriculum
Collaborate with other Education & Museum staff for program development and execution
Work in partnership with other allied organizations’ outreach staff for field programs

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Experience with Microsoft Suite and online platforms
● Comfortable working with diverse audiences; working with the public generally and
children specifically
● Oral and written communication skills
● Ability to stay organized, multitask and be efficient
● Ability to work effectively both, independently and in a team environment
● Either knowledge of or desire to learn about local ecosystems
● Reliable transportation to the New Canal Lighthouse, be that car, bike or public
transportation
