Summer 2022 Behavior Support & Camp Administration Internship
Location: Alton Baker Park
Nearby Nature seeks a Behavior Support and Camp Administration Intern for the summer of 2022 to assist with our eleven weeks of summer daycamps. Working with Nearby Nature is an excellent experience for folks interested in teaching or outdoor education!
Qualifications:
 Love being outdoors
 Experience supporting children who have behavior challenges
 Interest in program management
 Energy, sense of humor, passion
 Commitment to sustainable living
 Responsible, safety-conscious, 1st Aid/CPR training helpful
 Background in the natural sciences helpful
Responsibilities:
 Assist with camp activities and adventures (hikes, games, crafts, science projects, etc.) as needed, with a focus on supporting children who have identified behavior challenges – from kids with diagnosed conditions such as ADHD to kids who are simply having rough days.
 Assist with administrative, supply management, COVID safety, and site upkeep tasks as needed.
 Must be able to attend training sessions prior to the start of camp (see below).
Training: Training covers natural history, teaching skills, leadership, COVID policies, and safety. Training happens on June 11h from 10am-4pm at our site in Alton Baker Park.
Credit Options/Stipends for Student Interns: Students are welcome to arrange credit if desired through individual professors, the UO Holden Center, the UO Career Development Center, the LCC Cooperative Education Program, or other appropriate departments at area colleges.
Time Commitment: Daycamps run in weekly sessions, June 20 – September 2. Each session has its own unique theme. Half day camps run 9 am-noon or 1-4 pm. Full day camps run 9 am-4 pm. Interns must participate in trainings and assist with a minimum of 4-6 weeks of our 11 week session. These weeks do not need to be consecutive. A small stipend is available for applicants who meet internship qualifications. For topics and dates see nearbynature.org/daycamps.
