Summer Internship with the Mystic River Watershed Association

Water Quality Internship
Summer Internship with the
Mystic River Watershed Association
June 12 – Aug 25, 2017 (10 weeks work across
11 weeks. Can be flexible.)

The Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA) seeks a motivated and well-organized intern to assist in
water quality sampling and data management in a number of scientific projects. The intern may also assist
with invasive species removal from land and water.

The intern will serve as the point person for water quality sampling efforts over the summer. Responsibilities
include acquiring water quality samples in the field (from land, canoe/kayak and a motor boat), taking
measurements with electronic devices, performing some lab work (such as dissolved oxygen), and data
management. The intern may also assist with organizing and leading invasive species removal events with
corporations, community groups and the general public and directing and managing teams of volunteers –
some in canoes. This is an internship that combines being an enthusiastic leader and ambassador for our
organization at public group events with outdoor, physically demanding work, including moving canoes and
other gear and getting wet and dirty. This work will be performed with staff and other interns and training will
be provided.

Intern will work both in and out of the office, and must be able to work independently and as a member of a
team. This is a ~35 hour/week position with some time off. This is a great opportunity to be involved with a
small non-profit doing work on behalf of the community and environment. See our website for more about our
water chestnut removal project and water quality science programs.
