2021 Summer Camp Teacher/Naturalist
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Norman Bird Sanctuary is seeking Teacher/Naturalists for our Summer Camp program. Teacher/Naturalists lead groups of 10-13 campers in grades PreK through 8; plan and teach a variety of hands-on, nature-based camp activities; oversee camper health and safety; communicate with staff and parents; and supervise high school Assistant Naturalists in Training. Contract runs June 21 – August 20, including 1 week of staff training. Staff hours are from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. See below for details:
- Fledglings: Campers ages 3.5-5 years; Monday-Friday, 8:00 am–4:00 pm
- Nature Day Camp: Campers entering grades K-4: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am–4:00 pm
- Coastal Camp: Campers in entering grades 2-8; Monday-Friday 8:00 am–4:00 pm
- Explorers: Campers entering grades 5-8; Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:00 am–4:00 pm; Wednesday 2:30 pm–9:30 pm

- Must be at least 18 years old
- Knowledge of or a strong interest in the natural sciences
- Experience working with children in a responsible and professional setting
- Strong communication skills
- Must pass national and state background checks
- Bachelor’s degree or coursework towards a college degree in education, environmental science, or biology preferred
- Preference will be given to applicants that possess CPR and First Aid certifications valid through August 21, 2021
COMPENSATION: Competitive wages based upon experience and position. Contract is 9 weeks, beginning June 21st through August 20th.
