Sustainable Design Intern at Maclay Architects

Maclay Architects specializes in net-zero energy design. The firm, and founding principal, Bill
Maclay (’70), are the authors of The New Net Zero published by Chelsea Green. Located in rural
Waitsfield, VT, the firm is recognized as a leader in innovative, ecological planning and
architectural design since 1971.

The summer intern will assist in studio research and operations. Based on their interests the intern
will take on a personal project and assist in the daily operations of a dynamic architecture
office. Possible student project topics include building energy performance monitoring, energy
database tracking, green material research, marketing green buildings, or other topics based
on the student’s interests.

The ideal summer intern will have a passion for energy efficient design, desire to work in a
dynamic architecture firm, and be self-motivated. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and
Microsoft Office preferred. The duration of the internship can be negotiable based on the
candidate’s desires (5-10 weeks). Housing would need to be found in the area and we will assist
in the search for local options with advanced notice, additionally a car is most likely needed to
get around our rural community. Compensation should be sought through the CES summer
internship grant funding opportunity.
