A Health and Wellness internship with nbCC prominently consists of in-person, hands-on community engagement with limited hours of remote work. The work of the Coalition consists of engaging directly with the 10 communities of North Berkshire. Working alongside the Health and Wellness Coordinator, the intern will assist in community health work through projects and programs such as W.o.W. (Working on Wellness) Workshops, the nbCC Bike Collective, the Food Access Collaborative, Community Forums, direct community outreach activities, the month-long Mayor’s Fitness Challenge event and other all-staff events.

Responsibilities: (include but are not limited to)
- Assist in the nbCC Bike Collective:
- Assist volunteers and community members who are working at or in the bike collective, as appropriate.
- Assist with coordinating community bike rides and bike related events for nbCC.
- Assist in the role of Community Health Worker:
- Be willing to create and/or engage in assessments, surveys and feedback from workshops, classes, events and meetings.
- Be willing to build relationships in all settings by actively listening, respectfully addressing and conversing with community members in both face-to-face and electronic communication.
- Organize and/or co-facilitate Working on Wellness Workshops and healthy lifestyle programming.
- Be a catalyst and convener for current and new healthy eating and active living initiatives in North Berkshire. Provide leadership and promote integration of existing efforts to improve active living and healthy eating activities by local municipalities community organizations.
- Work with the nbCC Communication Coordinator to develop print media on the health & wellness initiatives.
- Ensure that the principals of health equity, anti-racism, and community-driven decision-making are upheld in every aspect of the work.
- Support & attend any nbCC event, activity, or program deemed necessary by Health and Wellness Coordinator.
- Maintain an organized calendar schedule of appointments and tasks.
Qualifications:
- Interest/major/specialization in Community Health Work.
- Creativity and initiative in developing activities and programs.
- Ability/willingness to establish highly effective working relationships with community partners and residents.
- Knowledge/interest in learning of local community resources and community-based providers, state human service systems, and familiarity with local school districts and key players.
- Comfort with public speaking, convening, and facilitation skills.
- Experience and comfort working with all types of people in a variety of groups.
- Cultural competency.
- Interest in working in the community to help address key issues.
- Demonstrated maturity and self-awareness as it relates to working 1:1 with individuals in the community.

Work Requirements:
- This is an active role, including but not limited to the following activities: lifting and carrying objects and materials; rearranging furniture as needed for events and programming on site and in the community at a variety of locations.
- Flexibility in scheduling with availability for some evenings and weekends, as needed.
