Do you love working with kids?  Interested in learning more about the Berkshire community?  Spend the summer interning at Mohawk Forest, an affordable housing community in North Adams.  The Caleb Group at Mohawk Forest Apartments in North Adams is seeking one or more Interns to work alongside local teens to implement a Summer Day Camp Program with an emphasis on environmental and health issues for the kids in the community.  The internship is a great opportunity for those who are committed to education, community empowerment, and to developing leadership opportunities and environmental consciousness in the Berkshires.

The Intern(s) will work under Laura Tatro, the Resident Service and Program Coordinator and Michelle Kemp the Community Builder who oversees the children’s programing at Mohawk Forest.  The internship is for 35 hours/week and covers an eight week summer camp program.   There is flexibility of working an extra week or two prior to the beginning of the program for preparation and planning of the program.

The tentative dates for this year’s 8 week summer program are:

 Monday, June 25 – Friday, August 17 or Monday July 2 – Friday August 24, 2018.

The intern(s) work with all ages of school age children (5+) including the teen leaders and help to implement neighborhood improvement projects in the Mohawk Forest community.  The intern(s) will also bring an environmental focus into the summer youth day camp program through experiential education including field trips, activity days and special events.

Past Interns in this position have worked on neighborhood projects which have included:

  • Access to healthy and local food
  • Trash and Recycling
  • Fitness
  • Other Environmental Awareness or action projects
