Big Sky Berlin Farm

Big Sky Berlin Farm is looking for an enthusiastic summer intern as we continue rooting
ourselves as a sustainable and productive flower farm in South Williamstown.

With our first experimental season behind us, a 2022 summer internship at the farm will focus
on the following goals:
• Improve sustainable practices to increase overall soil health (i.e. on-site composting, cover
cropping, soil tests)
• Establish a data-driven approach to growing organic flowers (i.e. log books, growing
indexes, baseline for standard of operations)
• Explore and protect the established landscape (i.e. identify native species present, mitigate
invasive threats, plant native pollinator gardens)
• Supply the marketplace with flowers and foraged flora (i.e. grow and harvest cut flowers,
process and fulfill orders, dry flowers for everlasting bouquets and wreaths)
• Increase community engagement (i.e. farm tours, social media management, local events)
• Collaborate with local businesses to better the small business economy in the Berkshires
(i.e. identify new opportunities, creative marketing, educational initiatives)
As the first season taught us, being flexible is necessary in farming. While a great deal of the
work we do on the farm includes repetitive physical tasks, long laborious days and fortitude out
in the elements, there are many components of operating a farm and stewarding the land that
involve research and creative thinking. Ideally, the internship will find a balance between all
aspects and responsibilities. If you feel passionate about sustainable agriculture, flowers and
flora, and working in nature, we welcome and encourage you to apply to our summer
internship. You will work alongside farmers William Smith and Mary Holland, and the trusty
farm dog Kidder Hollow. Transportation is preferred.
Schedule: 8-10 weeks, 5 days a week, 6 hours a day (flexibility is key)
Compensation: Unpaid, but daily lunch will be provided when on the farm and you can take
home flowers and herbs and veggies from our gardens!
To apply: email us at [email protected] with a short introduction of yourself, any
relevant experience, and why you are interested in this internship. Interviews for applicants will
begin ASAP. Deadline for the CES funding application is on March 17, 2022, with possible
deadline extension if funding allows. Our chosen applicant will receive an offer letter for their
internship at Big Sky Berlin Farm, necessary to include in the CES funding application
