Cricket Creek Farm is a small, family-owned dairy farm in South Williamstown.
We produce raw milk, grass-fed beef & veal and whey-fed pork, in addition to 7 different
styles of artisanal farmstead cheeses. We milk 35-40 cows at a time and care for about 80
animals in total. We have over 200 acres of pasture and use rotational grazing practices; we
produce much of our own hay to feed our animals throughout the winter, and purchase
what we cannot produce from Ioka Valley Farm in Hancock, MA. Our pigs are fed whey,
which is a byproduct of our cheese production, as well as any cheese that is removed from
production.
Our Mission is to produce nourishing food that honors our animals, respects the land, and
feeds our community, and to exemplify a sustainable model for small-farm viability. We sell
our cheese, raw milk, beef, veal, and pork in our farm store, alongside a wide range of local
products. We also sell our cheese and meat at a number of farmers markets we attend
throughout the area.
Join the crew at Cricket Creek Farm this summer! This internship is designed to provide 360°
immersion in the logistics of running a small dairy farm & creamery in Western
Massachusetts. This internship provides students with the opportunity to work directly on
the farm with our livestock and animals, in our creamery helping to make & care for
artisanal farmstead cheese, and in our office working on a collaboratively designed
business-related project. The right candidate may also have the opportunity to work a
farmers market, representing and selling our products while engaging with local community
in discussion around sustainability, agriculture, and supporting one’s local economy.
This position involves significant manual labor — carrying heavy 5 gallon buckets to feed
pigs, standing for hours in the creamery and moving large wheels of cheese around. This
position can be tailored to the interests and strengths of the student.
Requirements:
– Ability to lift 40+lbs
– Ability to closely follow directions and use reasonable judgment when completing
any task. This will be an immersive learning experience and the ability to work both
independently and as part of a team is critical.
– Strong communication skills, ability to assess when help or additional support is
needed.
