The Hoosic River Revival is looking for students to conduct research and assist with public programs, and help produce a short film.  The HRR is a community-based, nonprofit organization with a mission to reconnect the North Adams community to a clean, beautiful, and safe Hoosic River and to enhance the river’s recreational, cultural and economic vitality.

Two positions are available:

1. Research  intern: conduct research to support the HRR’s community outreach efforts, including locating visual images, reading historical documents, conducting interviews, and drafting text for HRR’s print and promotional materials.  The intern will be expected to help plan and/or run public programs that bring attention to the river and the HRR.  Working with historian Anne Valk (Center for Learning in Action at Williams), the intern will help create interpretive materials (e.g., historical walking tour brochure and other print materials) that tells the history of the Hoosic River and surrounding area and helps build knowledge or and public engagement with the river and the HRR.
2. Film production intern:  under the supervision of a professional filmmaker, the intern will conduct pre-production and production tasks leading to a short film about the Hoosic River and the HRR, including collecting and logging footage, filming interviews, scanning still images and capturing b-roll.

The intern(s) will be expected to complete 8 weeks of full-time research in Williamstown and North Adams between June 15-August 15, 2015 (dates negotiable).  The intern may qualify for funding (through the CES or the career center), including on-campus housing.

Qualifications: The research intern should be interested in public history, environmental studies, and/or local history. Experience with archival research is preferred.   Film production interns ideally will have experience working on film projects and a desire to advance the mission of the HRR.  Successful applicants for both positions must be able to both work independently and collaboratively and must possess exemplary writing, listening, and communication skills.  Access to a car or bike is desirable.
