Hoosic River Watershed Association (HooRWA)

Intern Position

Summer 2018

The Hoosic River Watershed Association (HooRWA) seeks an intern for the summer of  2018  The focus of the position will be on measuring water temperatures in tributaries of the Hoosic River. The purpose of this data-gathering is to better understand the resilience of cold-water fisheries in the face of climate change, and to help develop a climate adaptation plan for the Hoosic River watershed. Sampling times are weather dependent, requiring flexibility on the part of the intern.

Although HooRWA responds to events and circumstances, so that the exact agenda of other duties must wait until summer, additional responsibilities will likely include helping organize public events, providing content for our website and surveying  Hoosic River tributaries to determine those most likely to retain cold water characteristics—and how to maximize that possibility.

HooRWA will consider sharing an intern with another organization. The applicant should have access to an automobile or a bicycle.

The Hoosic River, which flows by Cole Field, runs 70 miles from Cheshire Reservoir through Massachusetts, Vermont and New York to the Hudson River. The Hoosic River Watershed Association seeks to improve the river and the lives of those who live in its 720-square-mile catchment. Our office is in the Congregational Church, across from the Paresky Center, on the Williams College campus.

Further information is available at HooRWA.org. Applicants should contact                              Executive Director Steve McMahon, 458-2742 or [email protected].
