The Resource Mapping intern will map invasive plants, trails, and other important features on TNC
Preserves in western Massachusetts. They will collect new data, as prioritized by TNC Staff, as well
as update historic data. They will be provided with a mobile mapping device (iPad mini) with ESRI
mapping applications and trained in its operation. Ideally, the intern will both collect data in the
field and then perform quality control and other tasks with the data in ArcGIS. As time allows the
intern will also assist in routine preserve stewardship and ecological restoration tasks in Western
Massachusetts.
DUTIES
• Collect invasive plant and other resources data in TNC preserves in MA
• Manage GIS data
• Stewardship and ecological tasks as agreed upon by student and supervisor
RESPONSIBILITIES
& SCOPE
• Minimum commitment of 150 hours (2 days per week, June – August)
• Student will have a flexible work schedule
• Student will regularly communicate with stewardship staff on progress
• Supervisory support will be provided by the members of the Stewardship Team
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma and pursuing degree in related field
• Good written and oral communication and organizational skills
• Familiarity with common invasive plants
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision at times
• Comfortable working alone outside in remote locations
PREFERRED
KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS &
EXPERIENCE
• Experience with ESRI ArcGIS software
• Relevant stewardship experience preferred
• Prior research project experience preferred
• Demonstrated ability to work independently on a project from start to finish
