Many Forks Farm is located in Clarksburg, MA, situated on a beautiful stretch of the Hoosic River, with just about 2 acres in vegetable production. The farm uses regenerative agriculture approaches and organic practices with the goal of sustaining and improving the health of the soil, the farm ecosystem and community members. With a vision of access to healthy food as a basic human right, the farm participates in a number of community collaborations to make its produce available, accessible and affordable to all. The farm provides food to the community through our CSA, farm stand and local food pantries. The stewardship of Many Forks Farm is being handed over to Molly Comstock this season, a farmer with over a decade of experience in small scale vegetable farming and a dedication to creating a welcoming farm experience to all who visit or work at Many Forks.
Position Description:
Ten weeks, June 10 – August 10 (but can be flexible with start and end times)
The internship will consist of 16 hours a week of farm tasks, where the intern will get to participate in harvesting, washing and packing, planting, seeding and more. The intern should be prepared for some heavy lifting, working in all kinds of weather, and work days that start early.
For the remaining 16 hours a week, the work will consist mostly of communications and education.
For roughly 4 hours per week, the intern will work closely with the farmer to create a weekly newsletter for our CSA, which will provide a great learning experience of the “behind the scenes” operations of the farm (planning etc.)
During the course of the internship, we will be hosting roughly 20 middle school students from the North Adams area, for 6 weeks on the farm, providing a safe and fun summer program run by a local non-profit. For roughly 12 hours per week, the intern will also work with the farmer to create a weekly 1-hour lesson plan for the summer program. The intern will also be involved with helping the farmer teach students about harvesting, soil health, insects, and more. This will be discussed in more detail during the interview process. A great fit for an intern looking for exposure to a teaching/education experience.
Housing and transportation not available for this season.
The farm is looking for someone who has a curiosity in food production, being outside, working hard, listening to music and sharing thoughts and ideas. A work environment that is open, communicative, positive, fun and collaborative is the goal.
Additionally, Many Forks participates in a regional farm network of CRAFT (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training), and an intern will have access to the network’s farm visits and workshops to further increase their knowledge of small-scale agriculture approaches and operations.
